Save the Date

September 11th 2010

Knit and Pearl’s 4 year anniversary celebration is fast approaching and that means so is our annual "Stitches Contest". We would like to invite everyone that has knit, crochet or weaved something from yarn purchased at Knit & Pearl to bring in one item for our annual Stitches Contest. There will be prizes for first, second and third place and a little something for everyone that enters. You can drop off your item anytime with voting beginning on August 30th. Everyone can vote as often as they like but only once a day until September 10th, then on Saturday the 11th we will announce the winners at 4:00 during the celebration. The lucky three items will be on display in the front window for everyone to see during the following week.

Remember our couch is always open for you to come sit and knit /crochet.

Classes

Knitting Classes

Beginning Knitting
Tuesday October 12th, 19th & 26th (New Dates) 5:30 to 7:30

Enjoy learning how to knit in a small relaxed group in our "living room setting". You will start with casting on then move on to knit, purl, yarn-over and bind off while creating a washcloth in this three session class. The class will also cover the importance of gauge, needle size, reading a label and the difference in weights of yarn.
Skill Level: Excited and eager to learn
Materials: Size 8 needles and one skein worsted weight yarn.

Cedar Leaf Shawlett
Saturday, October 2nd and 16th 11:00 to 1:00

This beautiful crescent shaped shawl with a lace leaf border will drape your shoulders or around your neck as a scarf. It is made with short rows with lace leaves as the bind off.
Skill Level: Inter. Beginner
Materials: Three skeins of Malabrigo or Manos yarn, Cedar Leaf pattern
Homework: Gauge swatch and cast on 270 stitches and knit six (6) rows

Manos Lace Hat “Saranac”
Thursday, October 28th and Nov.4th 5:30 to 7:30

You will be using a variety of skills in making this cute hat i.e. simple lace, changing colors, increasing & decreasing using double point’s needles. Reverse the color scheme and knit up another hat, you’ll have enough yarn!
Skill Level: Knit and pearl
Materials: One skein of main color & one skein of contrasting color of Manos Silk Blend, size 4 and 5 16” circular needles and size 5 double point needles, markers, the book Adirondack Accessories by Manos del Uruguay

Crochet Workshops

Wash cloth to Blanket

In this workshop you will learn the technique of taking a crochet stitch pattern to make a wash cloth then expanding it into things like scarf’s and blankets. Gillian will be teaching the Sedge Stitch and Grit Stitch for this class.

Ruffle Scarf
Tuesday, September 14th 5:30 to 7:30

This ruffled spiral scarf is a necessary accessory, will add a romantic flair to your outfit and you’ll be surprised on how quickly it makes up! It does use the entire skein so if you’re thinking longer go for a second skein. Pattern is included.
Skill Level: Know how to single & double crochet
Materials: One/two skein of Manos Serena (depends on your tension and length desired) and an H hook

Embellishments
Saturday, September 18th 2:00 to 4:00

You know that feeling after finishing a project and thinking “it needs just a little something”. Try a crochet edging or flower embellishments. In this class you’ll learn different edgings, a basic flower and the tricks to securing it to your project.

Homework: Bring in a single crochet scarf
Material: Complementary color yarn in the same weight as scarf
