One Year Anniversary Coming Soon!

Our one year anniversary is approaching soon, September 12th to be exact!

So on Saturday September 15^th we will be celebrating with a party from 11am to 5pm.

What is "Stitches"?
I would like to invite everyone that has made something from yarn purchased at Knit & Pearl to bring one item in for our first annual "Stitches" contest. We would like to show off your "Stitches" in the store and have everyone vote on their favorite. There will be prizes for first, second and third place. You can drop your item off anytime starting August 21st, with voting beginning on August 28^th..
Everyone can vote as often as they like, but only once a day until September 14^th.

Successful Yarn Tasting!

The Yarn Tasting on Tuesday, July 10th, went very well. Everyone had a good time sampling the yarns, meeting new friends and eating a few refreshments. The overall mood of the evening was fun and excitement. From the overall response of the night, this event will happen again!!

Thirteen yarns were sampled. We had a rating system so we could find out what the favorites are. First a list of the yarns tasted: Noro Cotton Hill, Fleece from Knit One Crochet Too, Lorna's Laces Sock, Tao Silk from Colinette, Mission Falls Cotton, Rowan Cashsoft, Louisa Harding Sari Ribbon, Malabrigo Worsted, Blue Sky Alpaca Dyed Cotton, Be Sweet Bamboo, Mango Moon Bali Sky and Capelli, and Misti Alpaca Chunky.

The rating system was from 1 to 4. 4 being wonderful and 1 not so good. The categories were knit ability, touch and feel, Needle preference, and project recommendations.

The most interesting yarn rated was the Fleece by Knit One, Crochet Too!. It rated 1.6 for knit ability and then a 4 for touch and feel. So if you can stand knitting it the result is wonderful!

Runners up are: Lorna's Laces Sock with 3.75 in both knit ability and touch and feel and Be Sweet Bamboo with a 2.6 for knit ability and a 4 in touch and feel.

The winners received a 4 in both knit ability and touch and feel. They are: Toa Silk by Colinette, Cashsoft by Rowan, Malabrigo Worsted, Misti Alpaca Chunky, and Blue Sky Alpaca Dyed Cotton!

Overall needle preference seemed to be Addi Turbos.

New Yarns Have Arrived!

We have just received several shipments of new yarn. We are happy to announce the arrival of Malabrigo Merino Yarn from Uraguay. The handpainted and kettle dyed colors are beautiful and the texture so soft and light. You have to see it to believe it!

We have also received our first shipment of Be Sweet. This company is based in South Africa and is doing amazing things to help women. We have the Magic Ball yarn in many colors. This can make a fun and unique scarf.

We have also gotten several sock yarns in. New colorways from Lorna's Laces and Claudia's Handpaint. We now have Tofutsies yarn in many different colors. More is on the way too! To make your sock knitting more enjoyable we have also gotten in the Sox Stix from Lantern Moon. These come in three different types of wood, Ebony, Rosewood and Blondewood and they come in their own silk pouch! They are 5 inches long and soooo smooth!

We are excited to offer these new yarns and accessories. We will be posting the new class schedule soon. There are some new classes and events in the works... stay tuned!

A Successful Stash Swap!

Today was the Spring Stash Swap and it was a success! Many people brought in yarn from their stash and took home yarn from the assembled stash collection. Everyone was happy and liked the idea. All leftover yarn will be donated to several different causes like the local schools and to prisons.

Thank you to everyone who brought in yarn to make this a fun event. There was a good turn out and it looks like this may become an annual or semi-annual event!
